Cloudvisor has made managing our AWS environment much easier. Their team is responsive and knowledgeable, and it’s reassuring to know we have someone to turn to when we need support or advice.
Challenges
- Growing data transfer costs – A large share of traffic was served directly from AWS infrastructure, so Data Transfer Out charges grew alongside platform usage.
- Storage on the default tier – Creative assets were primarily stored in S3 Standard, while some older or infrequently accessed assets could potentially be stored more cost-effectively.
- Limited cost predictability – With data transfer and storage driving most of the bill, the team wanted clearer visibility into where spend was going and how it would evolve.
As more agencies and their clients shared, reviewed and approved ads on the platform, the volume of creative files and the traffic they generated grew too. Adpiler wanted to keep its AWS environment efficient and its costs predictable as usage increased, without taking focus away from the product.
Solutions
Cloudvisor carried out a Well-Architected Framework Review of Adpiler’s AWS environment and identified data transfer and storage as the two main cost drivers. Adpiler also moved its AWS account onto Cloudvisor’s billing, which gave it better pricing straight away.
Better AWS pricing through Cloudvisor billing
Moving the account onto Cloudvisor's billing lowered Adpiler's AWS costs straight away, with no changes to its infrastructure.
Well-Architected Framework Review
Senior engineers reviewed the environment across all six pillars, identified risks and gave remediation guidance.
Cost driver analysis
A review of Adpiler's AWS invoices showed that data transfer and storage made up most of the spend, which showed where further savings would come from.
Content delivery through Amazon CloudFront
Serving part of the traffic through CloudFront would cache content closer to users, lowering data transfer costs and latency.
S3 Intelligent-Tiering
Moving storage off S3 Standard would let AWS shift rarely accessed files to cheaper tiers automatically.
S3 Lifecycle policies
Archiving or removing older, unused files automatically would keep long-term storage costs under control.
