The Client
Wikinight is a nightlife and events platform designed to connect users with clubs, events, and live experiences through a simple, digital interface. Operating in a fast-paced environment with traffic spikes around events and ticket sales, Wikinight depends on an AWS infrastructure that delivers consistent performance, scalability, and reliability under pressure.

“Cloudvisor helped us keep the project running with controlled costs while we developed our business model. Their availability and technical expertise allowed us to stay focused on the business.”
Challenges
- AWS cost control – The infrastructure worked but was not optimised, leading to higher-than-necessary costs.
- Operational overhead – Managing AWS required time and attention that took focus away from product and growth.
- Infrastructure optimisation – The existing setup lacked efficiency and clear governance mechanisms.
- Operational confidence – The environment required stronger controls and visibility to support long-term reliability.
- Safe testing needs – Changes needed to be tested without impacting live users.
Before working with Cloudvisor, opportunities to optimise infrastructure costs and security were identified within Wikinight’s existing setup. Cloudvisor supported targeted improvements in these areas.
Solutions
Under the Cloudvisor engagement, two targeted intervention services were delivered: an SOW review of the existing AWS setup and the deployment of a new AWS project, including a dedicated staging environment.
SOW review and environment assessment
Cloudvisor reviewed the existing AWS setup to identify gaps, future risks, and more efficient solutions.
AWS cost optimisation and governance
Unnecessary expenses were identified and eliminated, and clearer cost control mechanisms were introduced.
Security posture strengthening
Key security controls were implemented and enforced, including password policies with expiration, VPC Flow Logs, AWS GuardDuty, AWS WAF with managed rules in count mode, account-level EBS encryption, AWS Config, EFS backups, and budget alerts.
Performance and reliability improvements
Infrastructure changes improved overall application performance and reliability.
Dedicated staging AWS environment
A new AWS project and a separate AWS account were created for staging. This environment mirrors production while operating at reduced cost, allowing safe testing, infrastructure replication, and confident deployments without impacting live users.
